Laparoscopy is a method to see into your abdomen through small, quarter-inch incisions. It may take 2 to 3 incisions to accomplish the surgery. Dr. Cova uses carbon dioxide to distend the abdominal wall to see your internal organs.
Several gynecologic conditions including ovarian cyst, ovarian masses, endometriosis, and adhesions can be treated through these small incisions.
Dr. Cova can then diagnose conditions that may be causing you pain or bleeding. The surgery can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour. If you have a lot of scar tissue or endometriosis, it may take more time. A procedure performed through the laparoscope usually does not require a hospital stay and offers a very quick recovery time.
